Class Description: The physical burden of caregiving can be difficult and even hazardous as the needs progress. Daily caregiving tasks such as dressing or bathing or transferring and communicating throughout can be frightening and frustrating for all. This I-Care class will be a hands-on practicum demonstrating methods and techniques to help you and your loved one stay safe while you care for them through the physical demands of caregiving.

**Please Note** Caregivers may bring loved one to this class so that you can learn and practice together and staff can tailor things according to your specific needs.

Participants will learn the following and more:

  • Techniques to help support your loved ones as they stand, sit, or are transferred to a wheelchair, toilet or bed

  • Proper use of a gait belt to help with transfers

  • Methods to help dressing and undergarment changes with less stress

  • Effective ways to communicate through language and touch to allow your loved one a sense of control
